A Celebration of Reading 2010 |
|
We are pleased to announce our 5th Annual A Celebration of Reading program! Help your teens develop a love of literacy through A Celebration of Reading! Participating youth will receive a free copy of a book, create a project, and watch as literacy comes to life in a live performance of the book by Prime Stage Theater.
The Book:
Romeo and Juliet - Witness the depths of true love as you are swept away in this classic Shakespearean tale of youth, love and loyalty. A play full of drama, comedy, swordplay and tenderness.
Here's how it works: January 2010 - We will provide a free book for each youth participating, and one book for your staff coordinating the project. Books can be picked up at TFK office, or shipped at your expense. January-April 2010 - Under the guidance of your staff, youth read Romeo and Juliet. Be sure to choose a staff person to be the project coordinator to oversee the group of readers and keep their progress on track. Most groups choose to meet regularly to discuss their reading. April 2010 - Youth finish reading the book and work to create a group project capturing their impression of the book. Projects may use any creative visual medium - be creative! Thursday, April 22, 6PM-10PM - The youth, families (if space allows) and chaperones attend a live, private performance of Romeo and Juliet at the New Hazlett Theatre (located on Pittsburgh's North Side). Prior to the show, projects will be on display in the lobby, light refreshments will be served, and the teens will be recognized for completion of the project. How to participate:
This will be an evening performance on a school night. Matinees are not available. Youth MUST be able to attend this performance in order to recieve a book and participate in the program. Ages 13 and up.
Place your request by selecting 'Celebration of Reading' on the Available Events/Requests page of our website.
